Bhumi Farm Organics seeks a qualified devotee interested in dedicating his/her life to farming, not just for the sake of a business opportunity, but much more importantly as a tool and platform for preaching Lord Caitanya's divine message of Love of God. BFO envisions growing devotees as its most important crop.

ABOUT THE FARM

BFO is owned by Bala Krsna dasa and Harilila devi dasi. BFO has been "certified organic" for eight years. It is adjacent to and an integral part of Saranagati Village, an 1800-acre devotee community nestled in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia.

BFO has an extensive infrastructure in place, including the following:

• 12-15 acres suitable for agriculture that is partially in production
  
• water and irrigation systems
  
• good tractor and implements
  
• workshop/machine shop and tools
  
• micro-hydro-electric power from creek
  
• four cabins for guests and workers
  
• fully-serviced campsite
  
• 15 producing beehives
  
• developed markets for crops and value-added products
  
• extensive library
  
• satellite high-speed internet

JOB SUMMARY

• complete hands-on management of 15 acres of productive agricultural land
  
• oversee crop selection, crop rotation, soil preparation, composting, greenhouse planting, weed control, irrigation, harvesting, storage, and marketing
  
• oversee machinery maintenance
  
• introduce in future and oversee maintenance of ox-power farming
  
• engage and manage volunteers and interns in day-to-day farm tasks
  
• manage farm-related training and workshop programs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• love for working close to and in harmony with Bhumi (Mother Earth)
  
• love for physical, outdoor work
  
• prior experience in agriculture or willingness to learn under tutelage of experienced farmers
  
• high degree of management and organizational skills
  
• supplemental skills in carpentry, mechanics, and electricity a great asset - at least an inclination to learn these skills as you go
  
• good people skills and communication skills are essential -- a large number of guests, volunteers and interns will be helping with farm tasks on a daily basis

COMPENSATION & LIVING CONDITIONS

• compensation will be negotiated and customized for the successful applicant
  
• income will be directly related to sales
  
• compensation will include the following:
  
  
  • free family access to all food produced on farm
    
  • solid, livable, but unfinished log-home
    
  • security of long-term lease-type agreement
    
  • use of farm vehicles, machinery, and tools
    
  • electricity and water for domestic use

SELECTION CRITERIA

• must be a devotee of Krsna - applicant must give a description of devotional history of themselves and spouse. This must include character references from such people as guru, GBC, sannyasis, temple presidents, previous employers, etc.
  
• must develop a statement of goals and vision
  
• must demonstrate willingness to make a long-term commitment
  
• must include a resume of education, training, work experience, and devotional service
  
• preference will be given to second-generation devotees - under 30 years of age - who are family-oriented
  
• must be self-motivated, self-reliant and able to take BFO to teh next level of development towards its maximum potential
