Gouranga - Be Happy!

BY: STAFF CORRESPONDENT

Oct 23, LONDON (SUN) — A London newspaper reported that a man stunned shoppers on a British street on Friday by handing out his cash savings in order to "make people happy". Chris Aljaradat withdrew £10,000 ($24,111) from his bank account, then handed the money out to astounded (or as the Brits say, "gobsmacked") passers-by in Worcester, central England.

Aljaradat lobbed 20-pound notes into the air as a means for distributing the first 2,000 pounds. He then decided to simply donate the remaining 8,000 pounds to charity, since that seemed a bit easier. He said, "I am not really sure why I did it, but I just decided to help other people for a change and to try and make people happy,"

Aljaradat told the Worcester News daily. "I was actually quite shocked at some people's reactions and had to say 'Go on, take it' to some. I don't think they thought it was real money." The police arrived on the scene to investigate, but found Aljaradat's notes were real money, so they let him continue with his pastime.

According to local news sources, Aljaradat was wearing a sticker reading "Gouranga", the Hare Krishna word for "be happy"." Upon reflection, Alijaradat admitted that his girlfriend might not be so happy when she finds out what he was up to, since she's broke.
