Dec 17, HUBLI, KARNATAKA (NEW INDIA PRESS) — Bisi-oota workers’ stir enters 2nd day

The indefinite hunger-strike by workers of midday meal scheme under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Akshara Dasoha Bisioota Thayarkara Federation, Hubli, entered second day here on Friday.

Hundreds of workers from various parts of the district have been on strike in front of Hubli Tahshildar’s office opposing the state government’s move to hand over the scheme to International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and Adamya Chetana Foundation.

Devanad Jagapur, president of the Federation said that the decision of the state government to hand over the much ambitious midday meal programme to private organisations was against the interests of midday meal scheme workers.

In the name of providing hygienic food daily to the hungry children studying in government primary schools, livelihood of rural women who were employed under the scheme as cooks was being snatched away by the government, he added.

Members of the federation have resolved to continue their stir till their demands were fulfilled. David Goni, Akkamma, Rahamatbi, Mary Morabad, Saroja Hosur and others participated in the dharna.
