Sri Chaitanya Dandabhanga Leela Kunj Ashram

Oct 31, JAGANNATH PURI, ORISSA (SUN) — The most inconceivable and supreme eternal pastime site of Lord Chaitanya.

We are now proud to announce the launching of our Ashram’s first new official website. It's name is It will provide the entire clear cut picture and the necessary information you need with regards to the wonderful glories of this (inconceivably great) pastime site.

The Great Mercy has come.
The Age of Prema has begun.
The revelation of this supremely hidden eternal pastime site has marked the beginning of the most merciful age of Mahaprabhu, i.e., the Age of Prema (Prema Yuga).

Its revelation has not only marked a beginning to a new age but it has also served as a brilliant tribute to those two great Acharyas of unlimited divine stature namely 1) His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (that too, where the site was surprisingly revealed in the year 1996, during His Divine Grace’s centennial celebration); and 2) His Divine Grace Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaj (who had once openly predicted about this Dham’s appearance just 2 months before his final departure).

It was because of their matchless unalloyed purity that Sriman Mahaprabhu had personally chosen to make this most Merciful Dham of His, for this Age (Dandabhanga Dham), revealed under their parampara (i.e. in the parampara of ISKCON).

This great pastime site is the pride of ISKCON and it will remain as its pride for ever. (It is but the first ever supreme pastime site of the Lord sustained in the named of ISKCON.)

The entire Vaishnava community is eternally indebted to Srila Gour Govinda swami Maharaj, the great transcendental seer, through whom this Dham was first revealed and then brought under the Divine parampara of His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. It was he, who had once predicted openly (in an assembly of devotees, just 2 months before his final departure) about the appearance of this most inconceivable and supreme Pastime site (Dham) of the Lord. That incredible prediction which he had made has now come exactly true with the revelation of this Dham.

The Ashram is located at the great Dandabhanga pastime site in between the 2 most sacred rivers namely Bhargavi and Dandabhanga which are accepted as the direct manifestations of Ganga and Yamuna respectively. The peninsula has also been termed as a ‘Mukta Triveni Teertha’ where the great sage Bhrigu Muni had his permanent ashram here since time immemorial.

In accordance with the Bhagavad-Gita; Bhrigu Muni is but an empowered incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna Himself. And hence, the site (at which the great sage had his permanent ashram) can never be considered ordinary.

All of us are extremely fortunate because this Dham (at which the ashram is presently situated) has just started to manifest itself to the entire world. Every one of us is now having that rare privilege to come in contact with it in order to render our loving services.

The Dham was actually hidden for 500 years and for long no one had any idea about its exact geographical location. Just like 500 years back, no one had any idea about the geographical location of Sri Sri Radhakund. It was Sriman Mahaprabhu who, through His disciples (the Six Goswamis), manifested it to the entire world.

Till now, it was only the Hidden and Divine arrangement of Sriman Mahaprabhu that was working. The secret why Mahaprabhu didn’t desire this Dham to manifest for so long was perhaps because its proper time hadn’t arrived.

According to the prophecy of Acharyas, the Prema Yuga was supposed to begin 10 years after the 500th appearance anniversary of Lord Chaitanya and from there, would last for the coming 10,000 years.

And as per calculations, that year was supposed to be the year 1996. It’s not just coincidence but we can say that it’s more of a providence because this pastime site of the Lord was actually discovered close to the year 1996.

The Prema Yuga has already begun and the Manifestation of this Dham (His great Prema Dham) has marked the beginning of that age.

If truth be told, this is but the most merciful, most inconceivably mysterious and supreme eternal Pastime site of the Lord (especially meant for Kali yuga).

As stated in the “Sri Chaitanya Charitamrta” (Madhya Leela, Ch-5, text-158)

danda-bhanga-lila ei - parama gambhira
sei bujhe, dunhara pade yanra bhakti dhira

“This Dandabhanga pastime, of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Lord Nityananda Prabhu, is supremely deep, supremely grave and supremely hidden. Only to him, who is unflinchingly surrendered and soberly fixed at the Divine lotus feet of those two Lords [Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda], in his heart of hearts, can the immeasurable glories of this great eternal pastime be revealed.”

The words ‘parama’ and ‘dhira’, which are so significant, can never to be found together anywhere in all the unlimited pastimes of Lord Chaitanya excepting this Dandabhanga pastime.

Lord Chaitanya, who is very famously known as the ‘Prema Purushottama avatar’, remains personally present here in the form of His staff (which is non different from His own self) to freely distribute that inconceivable Prema (love of Godhead) to everybody without any discrimination.

In ‘Sri Sachitanayashtakam’, we find Srila Sarva Bhauma Battacharya offering his prayers to that great Danda (staff) by saying----

“ …durjana kalmasha khandana dandam
tan pranamami Sri Sachi tanayam”

“This Danda in your hand is meant to vanquish the sins accumulated in the hearts of those wicked demons. I therefore offer my respectful obeisances unto to that great holder of the Danda" (Sriman Mahaprabhu).

The scriptures confirm that the same flute of Lord Krishna has now appeared (in this age of Kali) in the form of the staff of Lord Chaitanya.

The Dawn of a New Age

The revelation of this supremely great eternal pastime site has marked the beginning of Prema-yuga. The era of Prema has begun and the place from where that prema will spread is the great Dandabhanga Lila Bhumi of Sriman Mahaprabhu and Lord Nityananda Prabhu. This is an established fact, of this there is absolutely no doubt.

In order to establish this fact, we shall now first refer to the statement of the great Padma Purana. That is:

sampradaya vibinamshcha mantraste viphala matah
athou kalau bhavishyanti chatvara sampradayane
sri brahma rudra sanaka vaisnava kshiti pavana
chatvaraste kalau bhavyat utkale purushottamat

(Verse from the Padma Purana)

"In this age of Kali, all the 4 principal branches of vaisnava paramparas (Krishna-bhakti) namely Sri, Brahma, Rudra and Sanaka will assimilate together in the Land of Utkala at Sri Purushottama Dham and spread the nectar of Krishna-prema through out the entire world."

This is the verse that indicates the place from where Krishna-prema will spread.

In the Oriya Gopaljiu publication named Shudha Nama Bhajan (conversations), Srila Gour Govinda Swami can be found discussing the prediction made by a great vaisnava sadhu named "Srila Kanupriya Gosvami".

According to his statement in an old published vaisnava journal, Srila Kanupriya Gosvami had predicted that the age of Prema (Prema-yuga) would begin exactly 10 years after the 500th appearance anniversary of Lord Caitanya. Coincidently, it was exactly 10 years after the 500th appearance anniversary of Sriman Mahaprabhu; that is in the year 1996, that Dandabhanga Dham was discovered and brought to the limelight.

Now a question may be raised over the verse of the Padma Purana (i.e.): When it only mentions Sri Purushottama Dham and nothing of Dandabhanga then why has Dandabhanga been given the prime emphasis?

The answer is very simple, that is — even by looking externally, we can see that the Dandabhanga Tirtha falls exactly within the Pancha Krosha or the Atma Mandala of Sri Purushottama Dham (Jagannath Puri Dham). The Atma Mandala is the most vital part of Sri Purushottama Dham.

It is said in the Brahma Purana that the transcendental significance of Purushottama Khsetra, which is the 80 square mile field of Lord Jagannath, cannot be properly described. Even the demigods from higher planetary systems see the inhabitants of this Jagannath Puri as having exactly the same bodily features possessed by one in Vaikuntha. That is the demigods see the inhabitants of Jagannath Puri as being four handed.

This Dham is non different from the Lord Himself and it is the expansion of His transcendental body. atma means "the soul". The entire body derives all its energy from the vital soul and without the soul the body cannot exist. Similarly, in the body of Sri Purushottama Dham, the most vital part is the Atma Mandala (Pancha Krosha) and Sri Dandabhanga Dham falls inside that Atma Mandala.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is also known as Prema Purushottama (the Supreme personification of Prema). Through the help of Lord Nityananda, in order to spread Krishna-prema, He had Himself installed over here, in the form of His staff (danda). This staff is a complete spiritual substance and is non different from Sriman Mahaprabhu Himself. It can never be separated from Him. The most merciful Lord Nityananda, who had especially come to distribute that prema, had purposefully broken this staff and established it here, after having been inspired by Lord Caitanya from His within. In Sri Caitanya Sahasra Nama compiled by Srila Puri Das (Kavi Karnapura), the names of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu are given as follows:

kalashodasa sampurnah purnabrahma sanatanah
caitanya krishna chaitanyo danda dhrk nyastadandakah

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is named as holder of the danda and is also named as the one who has established Himself at that place in the form of His danda.

Furthermore, in Srila Locana Das Thakur’s Caitanya Mangala, at the time of acceptance of the danda (staff), Mahaprabhu is found addressing it by saying:

ami ye sakala chadi karilu sanyasa
tumi na chadile more janme janme vamsa
rama avatare tumi dhanuka hayan
rahile amare hate dustera lagiya
krsna avatare vamsi haya mora kare
mohita karila tume akhila samsare
ebe danda hayan mora aila karete
kali yuge pasanda dalana hetu rite

(Sri Caitanya Mangala, Madhya Khanda, Atirikta paat)

"Oh, My danda! I am amazed to see that although I have given up everything by becoming a sannyasi, still you have never left me but instead remained with Me life after life. When I was traveling in the forest as Lord Sri Ramacandra, you were always in My hand as My bow and arrow. And also during My Lila Purushottama pastime of Bhagavan Sri Krishna, you were always there in My hand as My flute captivating the entire world with Krishna-prema. And now after I have given up everything, still you have never given Me up and thus you remain with Me as My danda in order to vanquish the bogus philosophies of pasandis (the atheists) in Kali-yuga."

These are just a few of the facts which show that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His danda are non different and inseparable from each other. The Lord, in the form of His danda (staff), is still personally present on this land to give Krishna-prema.

It is also a bonafide truth that the Dandabhanga pastime is evidently the most inconceivable and supremely hidden (Parama Gambhira) pastime of Lord Caitanya as confirmed in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta.

In Sri Caitanya-caritamrta (Madhya, 5.158), it is stated:

dandabhanga lila ei parama gambhira sei bujhe dunhara pade yanra bhakti dhira

The words parama and dhira, which are so significant, are never found together anywhere in all the unlimited pastimes of Lord Caitanya excluding that of the Dandabhanga pastime. Moreover, it is also the first ever pastime of the Lord during His sannyasa Lila. All of these facts as mentioned in the scriptures should provide one with more than sufficient evidence to prove this site’s authenticity.

There are also many ancient existing manuscripts written in Bengali and Oriya which have not only predicted the authenticity and greatness of this site but have also mentioned how this site will turn out to be the center point of the entire world from where Krishna-prema will spread (in that way, marking a beginning to Prema-yuga).

In one such old manuscript, it has been mentioned that a Dham (Prema Dham), meant to spread Krishna-prema, would manifest in Kali-yuga.

Also in another old manuscript it has been very boldly and specifically mentioned that in Kali-yuga the Ganga of Krishna-prema would spread through out the world from Sriman Mahaprabhu’s Dandabhanga Dham.

Actually all these manuscripts and proofs are still present, but they are not in a position to be displayed because of various difficulties. Hence, it will take another laborious process of making the necessary investigations and research in order to retrace their whereabouts. However, the fact is that they do exist and proof of the existence of these writings and the validity of their claims will be provided in the future when proper research fundings are made available.

Therefore, after viewing all these considerations, it has been finally confirmed and declared by great saints of venerated stature that Dandabhanga Dham is undoubtedly the place from where Prema will spread.

The most inconceivable mercy of Lord Caitanya, which is to spread Krishna-prema, has manifested through the revelation of this great Dham.

Our Aims

The Name of this Ashram is “Sri Chaitanya Dandabhanga Leela Kunja Ashram” and its development program is mainly intended for meeting the needs of those serious and sincere hearted devotees (from all over the world) who are deeply aspiring to stay here in order to take advantage of their (rarely achieved) human lives by practicing the true principles of devotion (for attaining that ultimate Goal namely ‘Krishna Prema’).

‘Krishna Prema’ which is the supreme goal (inconceivable even on the part of great spiritual personalities such as Lord Brahmaji and Lord Shivaji) is possible to be achieved only in this particular Kali yuga (which comes once in 2000 cycles of kali yugas or a day of Brahma) that too especially in this age of Mahaprabhu which is termed as the ‘prema yuga’.

That’s why, this particular Kali Yuga, in which Krishna has Himself appeared in the form of Sriman Mahaprabhu, is called the ‘Dhanya Kali’ or the ‘most blessed Kali’.

Please try becoming instrumental to this Divine cause of the Lord.

We humbly appeal to the entire Vaishnava community to come forward and help us in sharing these activities for developing the Great Pastime site (which is your true home). Please try to extend your help by making some small regular contributions (donations) through the website, It will be a great service.

Even a little service rendered to this Dham at this crucial period of time will certainly give you a lot in return and that is the truth.

Thank you very much.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all glories to Srila Gour Govinda swami Maharaj.
In the services of the Vaisnavas, Sri Guru and Gauranga.
Your servant,
Kiran Das.
