For the benefit of all,
as a point of information.
HDG Srila Prabhupada did have some of his senior disciples
acting in the capacity of officiating priests (ritviks)
before the July 9th 1977 letter.
My own (along with 3 other devotees) 2nd, or brahminical initiation,
was performed by Jayatirtha das
at Bhaktivedanta manor around end of 1976 or beginning of 1977.
The letter confirming it can be found in Siksamrta.
It is addressed to the then Temple President.
My wife Jyestha devi dasi had a similar experience in a different country.
We all witnessed Srila Prabhupada's illness first hand,
but that's another story.
It was very clear to us that Srila Prabhupada was
extremely sick,
and that the fire sacrifice being performed by
Jayathirtha das was on behalf of Srila Prabhupada and
that we were Srila Prabhupada's disciples.
