On October 12th, we published an article entitled "Guru Ashraya, a report to the GBC on guru issues by Gaura Kesava dasa. In the preface to his paper, we described a compendium of documents being referred to at the time as the ISKCON Resource Manual, which included:
- an unofficial organization of all GBC resolutions by category;
- forms that accompany the management guidelines;
- the 1996 GBC Resolutions;
- approved ISKCON policies on gurus and initiation;
- GBC approved guidelines for ISKCON management;
- a list of GBC Committees and their members;
- a list of ISKCON temples and preaching centers; and
- a list of ISKCON GBCs, sannyasis, and other leaders.
Along with the documents included in the ISKCON Resource Manual were a number of siddhantic papers that were also being promoted at the time, including:
- Justification for 2nd Edition Revision of Bhagavad Gita As It Is by HH Jayadvaita Swami;
- a GBC paper on Narayana Maharaja, Keeping Faith with Srila Prabhupada;
- the ISKCON Lawbook;
- Gurus and Initiation in ISKCON; and
- the Guru Ashraya paper.
As we stated in our preface to Guru Ashraya, we feel that by reviewing the genesis of the ISKCON Management Guidelines and the philosophical position papers that were promoted in association with the Guidelines, and by gaining some understanding of how these policies evolved and are currently employed by ISKCON, much can be learned about the current management trends and strategies in the society.
