Posted by Rocana 07/15/2005 @ 12:30 AM PST
Announcing the Launch of the Sampradaya Sun: On July 12th, 2005 the Sampradaya Sun began publication as a daily news website and independent reporting organization for the Vaisnava community. The Sampradaya Sun will serve as a full-service news venue, offering in-depth feature stories, fast publication of news and events submitted by the worldwide Vaisnava community, and philosophical editorial commentary from Sun editors and contributing writers. The Sun provides real-time Blog and PodCast network feeds, which are streamed to the front page and presented in a digest for easy feed subscription. Readers will also enjoy the Sun Blogs, where contributing writers are given their own Blogspace for direct dialogue with readers about the story they’ve submitted. See our "About" and "Submit" pages for details. We welcome your news contributions and look forward to serving you, for the pleasure of the Sampradaya Acaryas. Hare Krsna!

In his most recent comment on the “Sentimental Reunion” thread, Shiva das has posted two URL’s which allow us to peek behind the saffron curtain and observe the commotion surrounding the recently departed HH Bhakti Tirtha Swami. The debate between GBCs, sanyasis and ISKCON leaders is focused, in part, on Bhakti Tirtha Swami’s recorded opinions and comments on the touchy subject of homosexuality in Krsna Consciousness. No doubt the readers have seen the many articles posted on Chakra as this topic has been debated. I didn’t feel compelled to add my thoughts on the matter, but as it has come to the forefront in the Krsna Blog, I guess the time is right. [more]
Guru, Sadhu, Sastra
Posted by Rocana 07/10/2005 @ 06:44 AM PST
We are all familiar with the refrain Guru, Sastra, and Sadhu as being the spiritually scientific methodology utilized in order to authorize every aspect of the Krsna Consciousness process. Much heated discussion has taken place within the Vaisnava community regarding the clarification of the position and pre-requisite qualifications of a "bona fide" diksa/siksa guru. Each person, group and/or institution consults the Sastra as well as the recorded statements of the Guru (Srila Prabhupada) and the writings of the Sadhu (past Acaryas) so as to give weight to their opinions on this subject. Krsna Blog Archive
Posted by Jahnava 06/26/2005 @ 09:44 PM PST
We've now completed a fresh re-install of the Krsna Blog, and have archived older Blog content elsewhere in the site. The following three threads had to be manually re-built into the new Blog database, so all the posting and comment dates are the same. All three posts are still open to new comments. The new Krsna Blog Archive is now housed in the Vada section of the site. The Krsna Blog should now be restored to perfect running order, and we look forward to your continued participation here.
History... As It Is

In his recent Chakra article entitled, ”Prabhupada’s instructions on godbrothers 'misunderstood'”, Bhagavat das proposes that I “misunderstood” Srila Prabhupada’s intentions as they pertain to seeking spiritual guidance from his esteemed Godbrothers. [more]
Preaching in North America
Posted by Rocana 06/26/2005 @ 03:48 AM PST
During my recent meeting with Bir Krishna dasa Goswami, I mentioned that in my opinion the preaching, temples, and sankirtan movement in general are drying up in North America. This is partially due to the fact that most of the older sannyasis, GBC and preachers have gone overseas -- many to Eastern Europe -- to preach there rather than stay in their prabhu-datta-desa. He agreed, saying that he was asked to join his contemporaries in the previous Communist bloc countries, but he declined. [more]
Sentimental Reunion, Local Reality
Posted by Rocana 06/26/2005 @ 03:13 AM PST
Dear CHAKRA readers: Due to the length of this article, Chakra was only able to publish a condensed version. Please see the following, which is the article in full, followed by reader comments.
Like many of my Godsisters and brothers, I felt encouraged by the reconciliation gesture extended by ISKCON’s "Srila Prabhupada Family Reunion Committee”. I received personal emails of invitation from Yadubara dasa, whose wife Vishakha dasi is a member of the Committee. A number of emails also arrived from other ISKCON notorieties such as HH Jayadvaita Swami [BBT] and Sriman Nrismhanadana dasa [ITV]. It would indeed be spiritually uplifting to go on pilgrimage to Mayapura, and I imagined the pleasure of reconnecting with dear friends with whom I had served throughout my thirty-five years in Srila Prabhupada’s service. Alas, I was not able to attend the global family get-together. In lieu of going, I began the “back to home, back to ISKCON” journey right in my own backyard by attending the local ISKCON temple in Portland with my wife Jahnava and a Bhakta friend.
