Hari Sauri dasa Report
November 14, 1997

(VNN) - I was servant until mid-March. Prabhupada got extremely ill just before the Mayapur festival on March 2 and this continued for at least two weeks. He was sick from heavy swelling on his legs and hands from kidney failure; heart palpitations; an inability to pass urine properly and extremely poor digestion. He wrote a letter to one Dr. Ghosh in Kodaikanal expressing that his health was "completely ruined."

He took allopathic medicines prescribed by an old friend, another Dr. Ghosh from Allahabad, who was visiting for the festival. He also took some ayurvedic medicine from a psuedo-kaviraja from Allahabad and finally, some medicine from Bimalananda Taraktirtha, a well-known kaviraja from Calcutta who was brought to Mayapur specially to treat him after he couldn't pass urine for most of one day. I don't know the names of any of the medicines given at that time.

Yogendra Rasa was a regular medicine for many years before 1977 but sometime in mid-76 Prabhupada stoppd taking it. I don't know if he resumed it after I left the party in March 77.

I can give the diary entries I made at that time which detail to some extent the problems Prabhupada was facing. However at the moment my hard drive has crashed and I don't know if I can retrieve the data (and at this point I don't want to sit down and type it all out from the hand written diary until I find out the fate of my hard drive).

I left the party on March 13. Navayogendra Maharaja, Bhakti Caru Swami (then Ksira-cora Gopinath dasa), Tamal Krishna Maharaja, and Bhavananda were all with Prabhupada when he came to Bombay around March 22. After that, I don't know exactly what happened. Abirama obviously came on, as did Upendra. Pradyumna was also there troughout but not involved with any personal service. Yadubara was with the party when they went to Hrishikesa in May.

Hope this is of some help. Yhs, Hsd
