Thoughts on GBC, central management, temple authorities, mentor systems, and the direction of preaching coming from the pure representative the pure empowered devotee.
In this time of ISKCON, the position of Guru has been diminished to someone who comes and gives classes, occasionally some retreats, or social media events. Communications take place to disciples through e mails, and such Gurus have little or no influence on the services that the disciples carry out.
The direction set for the mission, who carries it out, what tactics and strategies are employed, who should be preached to, who is initiated, who they have to please to get initiation, the understanding of guru-tattva, and practically the whole direction of the movement, is now out of the influence of the pure devotee Guru, and in the hands of administrators who may or may not have the spiritual potency and surrender to fully understand Srila Prabhupada's intentions, being as Prabhupada's intentions are pure and only his pure representative will understand them, both internally and externally.
This is unprecedented in the history of Vaisnavism, that Sad Guru plays such a diminished role in the life of his disciples, and the pure Gurus have very little ability to influence the direction of preaching of his disciples, and that centralised GBCs, and local management have taken off the hands of the pure Guru representative of Krishna, His all important role in directing and pushing his disciples to preach the mission as he feels Prabhupada would want.
Our concern is that actually ISKCON is becoming a huge structural administrative organisation in the hands of administrators who have pushed the Guru's position to the sidelines, and who now set the agenda. Judging by the results, it does not look good: book distribution in decline, western preaching in decline, scientific preaching in decline, simply living high thinking projects in decline, opening of centres and preaching centres in decline, indigenous populations and counter-culture followers ignored, artists and intellectuals ignored, deep thinkers and philosophers ignored.
It seems that intelligent preaching is now not the goal, but financial security for one or a few projects, a small small world of security for some and what few would call success, but it's far from it, as now the goal is mainly centred around the Indian population, kind of comfort zones for the few, ok, but 0.5 out of 10 on a scale. This is particularly prevalent in Europe and USA, but not in Eastern Europe where Gurus direct preaching and disciples, it seems.
I say wake up, you empowered Gurus take your disciples and engage them in the projects and direction you know Srila Prabhupada wanted. Push the local management and centralised GBC who have lost the plot, vision and tattva of the Guru's position. Take back your rights of initiation, who and when, take back your influence on how they should be engaged, and put ISKCON back on track. It's in your hands, for you are to be the bona fide representative, you have the power to inspire, you know the Mission of your Guru well. Kindly carry it out, in cooperation with management and GBC, but give your all important direction -- one of knowledge and detachment and continuous preaching to all the jivas, not just the few.
Below we remember what exactly our mission is by studying the words of this sacred song, by Srinivas Acarya, and reflect on which direction ISKCON is taking.
