Progressive March?

I heard it said that some GBC are patting themselves on the back for the progressive march of society toward vegetarianism, interests in ecology, yoga and general self-awareness. They think this is all down to ISKCON, and maybe their management.

However when Srila Prabhupada came to the USA, this kind of thinking was in place already. Prabhupada intelligently tapped into the people who were thinking in that way, and brought them to even greater understanding, namely Krishna consciousness.

Perhaps this is something the modern ISKCON could do more of, rather that becoming a religion connected to Hinduism. The original ideas of the counter-culture of the 1960s have left their mark on society, and the ideas for a greater community spirit is something many people pursue, as Srila Prabhupada says in his introduction to Srimad Bhagavatam.

For ISKCON managers to consider that this counter-culture progression is all down to The Hare Krishna movement, when our society has been heading for affiliation with bankers, politicians and official Hindu religion is, well, any amount of words could be used.
