In Keeping with the Spirit of Srila Prabhupada

Jul 12, 2017 — MANCHESTER, ENGLAND (SUN) — In light of the purport from Caitanya-caritamrta Adi Lila Ch. 12, Text 9:

"This verse describes the beginning of a schism. When disciples do not stick to the principle of accepting the order of their spiritual master, immediately there are two opinions. Any opinion different from the opinion of the spiritual master is useless. One cannot infiltrate materially concocted ideas into spiritual advancement. That is deviation. There is no scope for adjusting spiritual advancement to material ideas."

When disciples do not stick to the principle of accepting the order of their spiritual master, immediately there are two opinions. Any opinion different from the opinion of the spiritual master is useless. One cannot infiltrate materially concocted ideas into spiritual advancement. That is deviation. There is no scope for adjusting spiritual advancement to material ideas.

Now the question is, without a full written Prabhupada ISKCON constitution, how is anyone to know if opinions of past, present and future GBC and temple presidents and their committees are actually the opinions of Srila Prabhupada, which he had for the structures and ongoing strategies for his society? Or are we supposed to follow the GBC of the day, and have faith that they are cent percent pure and connected to the divine will of His Divine Grace?

The former and not the latter is clearly the best approach and would be in keeping with the spirit of Srila Prabhupada, who wanted a GBC, but for what?

It's not that everything that is being done in ISKCON's name is wrong of course, but the constitution will focus minds and really bring attention as to how effectively Krishna consciousness and its spread could be in all the fields that Prabhupada has called for, and which could once again unify the whole of ISKCON.

Although Srila Prabhupada formed a GBC, it appears by his calling for a written constitution, it means he is not giving the GBC and presidents a carte blanche approach.

The purport shows how important it is to be precise, not only in the philosophical aspects of our tattva but about the orders of the Founder-Acarya, which are indeed the whole foundation of our being able to grasp these truths, as we endeavour to become his servant and in turn the servants of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
