More On Family Planning

Apr 19, 2011 CORRALITOS, CALIFORNIA, USA (SUN) Going a little deeper into the topic concerning married devotees limiting their families to two children -- I see that the idea is being put forward that by keeping the number of children to a maximum of two without regulating and limiting sexual relations for procreation only --- two options are left. One is to use birth control and the other is to just keep having children.
The statement I see being made is that experience has shown that the concept of procreation for children only -- although it is a wonderful standard -- isn't practical and hardly any householder couples are able to do it. Well then, it's the same old thing. Follow the instructions, advice and orders of the spiritual master and life is sublime; don't follow them and life is complicated and burdensome. So what else is new?
What's next -- lowering the bar again because devotees are okay with not drinking alcohol or using hard drugs -- but so many of us just can't give up marijuana, so let's just allow it and declassify it as a non-rule breaking behavior?
A little compromise here -- an adjustment there -- rationalizing it with time, place and circumstance over there and practicality over here... and let's remember how important it is that we are popular and not go against the grain in the academic community, or with other "yoga organizations."
I'd rather see the whole movement go under than watch it die from a thousand little compromises.
