The Horoscope of Mahatma Gandhi

Mar 18, 2012 — USA (SUN) — Mohandas Gandhi's chart has been discussed in a past Sun issues. I would like to present a different view.
Firstly we see Libra rising with the ascendant ruler Venus forming Malavya Yoga. (Venus in its own sign or sign of exaltation in an angle 1-4-7-10) One of the Maha Purusha Yoga's. In his case conduces to great fame. Secondly we have Gajakesari Yoga happening in the angles of the chart. Jupiter in the 7th house in Aries and the Moon in the 10th house (in Cancer its own sign) in angles to one another produce Gajakesari.
Cancer is also the sign of the child, the home the country. This was seen for his loyalty to the family-extending to the country. It can also take the turn of bigotry, but in Gandhi's case it lead to a commitment to patriotism.
The presence of Rahu with the Moon further augments that position and brings past life attachments to the home and country land. Also we seen in the chart Chatursagar Yoga, all the four angles of the horoscope occupied by planets. This gives lasting fame even after death. We also see the coming together of the 1st house ruler forming Malavya Yoga with the 9th house ruler Mercury forming a very powerful Raja-Yoga. Now Jupiter accepts the ascendant and ascendant lord, Jupiter in the first or seventh produces great courage and gives the person a kind nature or the higher impulses are activated. In the ascendant we see two Trik lords (6th, 8th & 12th lords) placements. Venus ruler of the 8th (assassinations and death) and Mercury ruler of the 12th (loss and the next life).
Jupiter also is a Trik lord due to its rulership of the 6th house, brings its aspect to two Trik lords in the ascend. So all three Trik lords are aspecting each other. A very powerful condition for sudden death or murder. To further make his assassination inevitable, the Maraka lords (2nd & 7th) Mars ruler of the 2nd & 7th is in the first house. Mars and Mercury are also natural Trik lords and Venus is the natural Marak lord. So nature Trik lords have become specific Trik lords.
These are very damaging statements in this regard. Mars in the first often causes a violent death (John Lennon). We often find Mars and Mercury together in the horoscopes of many politicians. This combination also has the tendency to twist the truth.
So they will produce good result as lords of the 1st and 9th houses, the 9th being the house of destiny, but two Trik lords coming together in the 1st house of the self was the cause of his assassination and death. People who are murdered or who murder others often have two Triks lords together in the horoscope.
Note also the Scissor in the horoscope to the first house. Sun in the 12th and Saturn in the 2nd. These two malefics put a squeeze on the first house and the planets occupied there in. So wonderful deeds are seen in this horoscope, no doubt, but side-by-side we see an inevitable demise. Gandhi lived up to 78 years, so it was not a short life. Again, the two houses of longevity, 3rd and 8th lords are influencing the ascendant and the natural planets of longevity Mars and Mercury are in the ascendant also.
Gandhi had a fondness for fasting to get his way. Saturn is in the second house of food, and this austere restrictive planet gives the ability for prolonged fasting. Moon in Cancer gives the child-like nature, which gave this child-like stubbornness to fast to get what he wanted. Mars in the first adds to his determination for these long fasts, also as lord of the second.
Saturn is Yoga Karaka for Libra rising horoscope, this gives wonderful results. Here in the second house of speech gives the ability to move the down trodden, the oppressed, the masses with ones words. Gandhi spent a lot of time in confident, this is seen by Mercury the 12th lord in the ascendant and the Sun which represents the government is in the 12th house in Virgo, the sign of enemies. The 12th house is also foreign lands, foreigners. The Sun is the planet of authorities and in the 12th house often - foreign authorities, in this case the British ruled India.
The 12th house is the house of confinement and punishments. He was certainly punished and confined by the British. We also see Mangal dose happening in the ascendant (Mars in the 1st) Mangal dose effects married life and Jupiter Trik lord of the six in the seventh. Jupiter would give a good wife but the Mangal dose gave them little in common. The wife was a traditional lady and he was not. He did not fully embrace Vedic culture and Vedic traditions but mixed in the Buddhists idea of nonviolence, even misusing the Gita to prove his idea of non-violence.
Moon in Cancer in the 10th, posted in the house of career and Cancer being the natural homeland, so his work becomes his homeland. Also to be noted, the Nodes (Rahu & Ketu) in the 4th 10th axis often cut off the life suddenly.
Mercury, lord of the 12th house of secret pleasures sitting in the 1st with Venus, coupled with Mars would give rise to prominence and to sexual indulgence. Saturn in the 2nd denies pleasures and basic needs of the tongue and can also produce long periods of celibacy. Saturn's gaze on the 8th house suppresses the sexual cravings also.
Ninth house lord Mercury in the first gives a sense of destiny, so there would be great struggle in controlling the senses. Saturn gives it full effect or reaches full maturity at year 36 in any horoscope. The 36th year is when he took the vow of celibacy. Srila Prabhupada said for this reason, he was able to drive the British out of India.
The lord of the homeland (4th) Saturn is sitting in the house of assets in Scorpio, the sign of regeneration, so his country literally became his asset even though he did not claim any specific title as such, but became known to this day as the father of Greater India.
