The GBC maintain that Srila Prabhupada authorized all his disciples to initiate after his physical departure. This position begs two questions:
1) Did Srila Prabhupada accept that his disciples were qualified?
2) Did he expect them to become qualified in due course of time?
Considering the mess that ensued after his physical departure, one can safely assume
that they were not qualified then. What about now? After 36 years? Hmm.
One more question can be asked: what is the qualification?
Taking into account the still ongoing debate raging among the different factions
within the ISKCON fold, we can conclude that the topic is as foggy today as it was
when they established 11 conditioned souls in the position of Acharya 36 years ago.
